DPR August Newsletter

Dulwich Park Runners August Newsletter

Summer is finally here! After having to cancel the July rounders game because of torrential rain, it’s lovely to feel the sun as we run, and we’ve had some great events enjoying it.

Just this weekend our Chair, David, led a wonderful running tour around London, pic attached. We’ve all been glued to the Olympics, judging the otherwise very impressive athletes’ dodgy “dinosaur arms”, and the DPR’s Summer League has been a revelation with one event to go and we are in our best position ever!

That final Summer League event is Sunday 11th at 10am in Battersea Park – it’s a lovely, PB-friendly 10k route – and also our Club Championship for the year – with the usual picnic and relays afterwards! Do come along, all paces welcome.

As well as the Summer League successes, congratulations to Anton who conquered the Rab Helvellyn Sky Race – no mean feat at over 36 miles and 12,000ft of elevation! And to Zach who broke the 5k club record for both his age group and the one below, in July with a time of 17.33 – amazing!

Dates for your Diary

After Summer League at Battersea Park next weekend, there’s lots more to look forward to!

August 18th – we are taking over the Dulwich College track for a Family Sports Day with all sorts of different events suitable for all paces, ages and energy levels! We will kick off at 1530.

September 1st – we hope your training is going well for The Big Half on Sunday 1st September.  We’ve set up a WhatsApp group within the DPR WhatsApp community so that you can chat about training, arrangements etc. There will also be a social afterwards! Pic below of Gillian and Maurice getting their miles in. If you’re after more pics, you can see a whole range of DPR photos here

September 7th – the first date for our Autumn Beginners Course with all the details on the DPR website is updated. Please distribute the information on the attached flyers DPR_Beginners_A4_Autumn2024 to your family, friends and neighbours. We are very reliant on you to help as running buddies at one or more of the sessions, with an end of course breakfast at a local cafe as a thankyou! We really appreciate your help. You can email beginners@dulwichparkrunners.com for more information on the course, or on helping (mark your email ‘helper’).

Cross Country Dates – October 12th Reigate, November 9th Holland Sports, Jan 11th Oxshott, Feb 8th Lloyd Park – get in touch with our captains Alan and Alice if you want to know more!

And finally a reminder to put the dates in your diaries for our two October DPR 40th events – a five mile race that we are organising for the whole community in Dulwich Park on October 6th and an amazing PARTY with live band, food and dancing on October 26th.

Thursday Improver Sessions

Our Thursday track sessions for August continue on the lovely Dulwich College track. We’ll be working on technique, agility, balance and coordination; all the background work you need for good running at all levels.

The sessions are free. We don’t know of any other clubs who offer free sessions of this nature, so it is a fantastic opportunity to improve your running. You need to be running at least 10 miles per week to take part.

If you’d like information or have questions, or want to join the Thursday sessions, please email Susan. You can also get in touch with Susan for help with race schedules, or coaching tips for general running.

And last but not least, if you’ve been admiring Mark S’s threads in the park, now is your chance to get some! Four stylish items are available:

Classic T-Shirt £24

Essential Classic Long Sleeve T-Shirt £27

Essential Classic Sweatshirt £35

Essential Classic Hoodie £38

The sweatshirt & hoodie are available in white or grey.

Just click here select your size, product & colour from the drop down menu.

Enjoy the summer!
