DPR July Newsletter

Dulwich Park Runners Newsletter July 2024

The first half of the year is over! How is your running going? Achieving your goals so far? Time to set some new ones for the second half? Read on for inspiration!

Go on a DPR Weekend Away!

We’ve had a great response to our trip to the New Forest 29th November – 1st December but there are a few more places available.  We will be staying at the New Forest YHA in Burley and doing the Runrebel trail run on the Saturday morning. If you are interested in joining us please WhatsApp Lucy Ross or email her.

Run a marathon!

As per usual we have a lot of disappointed members who didn’t get their much hoped for London Marathon place in this year’s ballot. Apparently the odds of receiving a place this time were 100-1!  We expect to have two places this year for our own DPR ballot which will take place later in the year and one further place on offer to those who marshalled this year’s London Marathon.  Do let us know if you were lucky enough to receive a London Marathon ballot place!

London is of course the must-do marathon but there are many more out there and some very exciting ones at that.  On that note, huge congratulations to Alex Barclay who completed the Tromsø Midnight Sun Marathon on 22/23 June. What an achievement!

Attend our Thursday Improver Sessions!

Our Thursday track sessions for July and August are on the lovely Dulwich College track. We’ll be working on technique, agility, balance and coordination; all the background work you need for good running at all levels.

The sessions are free. We don’t know of any other clubs who offer free sessions of this nature, so it is a fantastic opportunity to improve your running. You need to be running at least 10 miles per week to take part.

If you’d like information or have questions, or want to join the Thursday sessions, please email Susan. You can also get in touch with Susan for help with race schedules, or coaching tips for general running.

Enter a club championship!

A reminder that the Summer League fixture at Battersea Park on Sunday 11th August is also our 10k Club Championship for this year. It is a fantastically flat course so perfect for fulfilling your PB aspirations.

Last month we had two Wednesdays of fabulous relay events, and the of course our annual fun relays with huge thanks to Susan and Shannan for the races and the food!

The Crystal Palace Dinodash on the 12th saw 9 DPR teams dashing round the dinosaurs. It was a really fun evening and we even managed a podium spot (in theory) thanks to Amanda, Tim and Ben who were third in the mixed team category. Congratulations to them, Amanda again for being our fastest woman and James our fastest man.

The next week saw team DPR out in force at the Dulwich Midsummer relays.  It was absolutely fabulous to watch and everyone should be proud of their achievements. There were several PBs which is fantastic. Congratulations to our fastest team of Carlisle, Zach and James – 13th out of 96 teams is pretty impressive.  Amanda was again our fastest woman (even though she ended up running twice) and Carlisle was our fastest man.

Come to a Summer League Fixture!

We have had two of our Summer League fixtures so far with some other great individual and relay performances. It’s the all-important Dulwich 5 mile run, followed by amazing picnic on 14th July – please come along to run or volunteer! And then Regent’s Park on the 28th, with the final fixture at Battersea Park on 11th August.

Play rounders!

Finally we have our annual rounders match this Friday at 1830 in Dulwich Park – all welcome, bring your family and friends!
