DPR June Newsletter

Hi All

Summer is here! And we have lots of exciting things to look ahead to over the coming weeks. Read to the end for news of our next weekend away! In order to make sure that you’re getting all of the latest news and upcoming events please consider signing up to our WhatsApp group – we have a general group, but there are also lots of sub-groups for specific races and events which you can join and leave as you wish! And you’ll see amazing pics like the above of our members becoming slightly obsessed with teapots!

Upcoming Events

Entries for the Crystal Palace Dinodash on 12 June and the Dulwich Relays on 19 June are now being sorted. If anyone who hasn’t already said they’re in would maybe like to run drop Lucy R a message. It would be good to have a few back ups or maybe even another whole team if it works out. Please also make sure that you have paid Lucy!

On June 25th we have our annual fun social races at the clubhouse,  a Tuesday not to be missed! We also have one of our regular rounders matches on July 5th in Dulwich Park.

Summer League is nearly here! Our first event is 16th June at Headstone Manor with a 5 mile race, a picnic and relays. Please talk to Nat or Angus if you have any questions.

We now have an amazing 77 entrants to the Cabbage Patch 10, this year’s 10 mile Club Championship, on Sunday 20 October. I suspect there are very few places left so if you haven’t signed up yet you’d better be quick! https://register.enthuse.com/ps/event/CabbagePatch102024/

And I trust you already have our 40th Bday events in your diary – October 6th for the 5 mile race, and October 26th for our PARTY!

Sunday Runs

Remember we have Sunday morning social run every week! 9.30 at the cafe in Dulwich Park followed by coffee in the park unless otherwise notified. The WhatsApp group is here. The runs are suitable for all pace of runners in the club and are designed to be a sociable!

Improvers

Our Thursday track sessions for June continue the series of sessions with emphasis on improving your technique, and your speed. It’s great preparation for the summer league races, especially the relays!!

The sessions are free. You need to be running at least 10 miles per week to take part.

If you are not already in Susan’s list for Thursdays, please email her at coach@dulwichparkrunners.co.uk for more info. Or if you would like help with race schedules, or coaching tips for general running please drop Susan an email.

A reminder to time your 400mts using the markers in Dulwich Park, or at Dulwich college track on Thursday evenings 7-8pm (you don’t need to join the Improvers to do this). Email your results and age please at 16.6.24 (age points count in Summer League!) to Susan.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Well done to everyone who ran in our 1 Mile Club Championship on Tuesday 21 May.  It was really nice to see so many new faces and fabulous to have 40 runners overall.  Special mention to Alicky who smashed another Club Record. Picture of us all in the rain and full results here: https://www.dulwichparkrunners.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/2024-Mile-Club-Championship.pdf

Well done to David W who ran Chester Half Marathon on Sunday 19 May. The same day saw Maurice, Alicky and Conor running the Hackney Half. Alicky did a fantastic time and set a new Club Record and Conor set himself a new PB. Nicole ran the Fox 20k trail run down in Surrey last weekend and over in Bermuda Ib conquered the hot and hilly Half Marathon Derby. This last Wednesday Nat also set himself a new PB at the Chase the Sun Battersea Park 10k. Shiny medals all round!

Attendance Award

An update on this year’s attendance award. Following our 1 Mile Club championship and the completion of the Spring Beginners course, it’s all change at the top. On 5 points we have Sandra, Di and David M but leading the way on 7 points we have Susan and Oghene.  The next events that will score you attendance points are our 4 Summer Leagues along with the monthly Dulwich Dash. See you there!

Weekends Away

What a brilliant weekend in Edinburgh! (apart from the weather). Jacque and Denise conquered their first marathons despite bad weather and cramp. Andrea and her son also completed their first marathons as did Zach, who also managed to successfully pace his sister to a marathon PB. Tim M was suitably chuffed to successfully beat his good-for-age qualifying time and Fran R also completed her marathon in a very respectable time even though she wasn’t well. Congratulations to you all! Thanks so much to James H for organising a fabulous weekend. James beat his target time in the half marathon and set himself a new PB – very well deserved. Other half marathoners were David M, David W, Alan B, Will T, Lucy R, Oghene and Mark S. Angus and Sally had a sunny 10k run on the Saturday in glorious sunshine – nice that it didn’t rain the entire time!

And now we have an exciting announcement to make about our next weekend away in the New Forest. We will have exclusive use of the YHA Youth Hostel in Burley from Friday 29th November to Sunday 1st December. The hostel sleeps up to 33 people so plenty of room for a good group of us. The plan would be to arrive Friday evening and probably have a group meal at the hostel. Some people may drive; alternatively Brockenhurst Station is only a few miles away.

On the Saturday we will run the RunRebel New Forest Trail run (21.6 or 16.4kms) and have a meal out at a local pub to celebrate our achievements. On the Sunday we will have a walk before heading back to London.

DPR are happy to guarantee that the accommodation will cost no more than £50 per person per night and could well be less if we have more than 20 people. The race entry is £35 or £40 depending on the distance chosen and we have a 10% discount code. It should be a great weekend. Please let Lucy Ross know if you would like to come along (lucy.ross@gmail.com) or on WhatsApp. It’s first come, first served!!

Finally thanks to those who came to the AGM and please see here the minutes 3. AGM Minutes (Final) 2024 dm (002). We would be very grateful if you could take a read and let Emma Pond know of any inaccuracies.

Until next time!
