DPR SEPT NEWSLETTER

Dulwich Park Runners Newsletter September 2024

Happy September! I hope you’ve all had great summers and are raring to go for the autumn season ahead, with cross-country to look forward to and excitingly several amazing events for our 40th bday! You can see all our upcoming events really easily here. Bookmark it!

Before all that though, GOOD LUCK to all our runners in the Big Half today! And if you want to join them for post-run drinks they will be in Ye Olde Rose and Crown near the finish from midday today!

In other breaking news massive congrats to Zach who ran the Jonkoping Marathon in a hugely impressive 2 hours, 49 minutes, 41 seconds time yesterday. The stattos have already worked out that this smashes the previous M50 club record by 20 minutes! Well done! And whilst we are on amazing achievements, big shout out to Steve and Katia on their recent Iron Man successes and Katia getting a place in the world champs next year!

10k Club Championship Results

Our 10k Club Championship for this year took place at the Battersea Summer League on Sunday 11th August. We had a super turnout and some impressive times. Our three fastest men were Carlisle (1st), Ronnie (2nd), Nat (3rd). Our three fastest women were Amanda (1st), Nicole (2nd ), Martha (3rd) and our three top age graded results were Susan (1st), Rosemary (2nd), Amanda (3rd). Both Susan and Rosemary managed truly admirable age graded results over 80%. Congratulations to everyone. Full results are on the website here

Medals for this race and others will be given out this coming Tuesday at the Big Half celebratory social at the Clubhouse after the Dash.

Upcoming Races

A good number of members are taking part in the Vitality London 10k on Sunday 22nd September so we wish you a great race taking in the sights of London.

Our 5 mile Club Championship is our 40th Anniversary race in Dulwich Park on Sunday 6th October.

The 5k Club Championship is Dulwich parkrun on Saturday 2 November.

Club Championship Races 2025

A heads up that our half marathon club championship for 2025 will be the Paddock Wood Half Marathon on Sunday 9th March. This is a lovely undulating (not hilly) course along Kent country lanes with a sociable start time of 10.00am and is easy to get to on public transport.  There is an early bird entry of £26 with your EA membership until 31 December so signing up sooner rather than later is recommended. https://www.paddockwoodhalfmarathon.co.uk/

We are also excited to say that we will be adding the Marathon distance to our Club Championships next year.  Any Marathon completed in the calendar year will count toward the competition. News of the other 2025 Club Championships in due course.

New Forest Weekend Away – Friday 31st November – 1st December 2024

Places on our weekend away are now all booked and we’ve started a waiting list.  Places will only become available if anyone signed up can no longer attend.  If you’d like to join the waiting list please email Lucy at lucy.ross@gmail.com or send her a message.

Attendance Award

Following recent Club events, including the 5 Summer Leagues, we can now update the standings in the competition for this year’s Attendance Award.  Currently in 3rd place we have Alan Brown on 8 points, Di Suter is in 2nd with 9 points and at the top on 12 points we have Susan Smith.  Still all to play for with points awarded for helping at the Beginners Course, the Cross Country events and this year’s Dulwich Dash.  The rules of the competition can be found here

Our 40th Celebrations!

Last month we had our amazing Sports Day, pic attached of the fiercely competitive Shot Put. And we have another 2 amazing events coming up! Firstly we have our first ever public event, a 5 mile race on October 6th. This is for DPR, other running clubs, general members of the public so tell your friends! Please spread the word and post to your socials.

And then on October 26th we have our PARTY in Dulwich Village with live music, food and booze! Details to follow soon but keep the date free!

IMPROVERS
For September and October we are working on 5k pace including sessions used by Jess Kerr and Steve Cram. This is specifically aimed at improving your parkrun times, but also useful for our up-and-coming 5 mile race, and Cabbage Patch 10. The sessions are free for anyone

coach@dulwichparkrunners.co.uk for for information.

If you would like help or advice generally on your running or training plans, please contact Susan at the same email address.
