DPR Mid-November Club Update

Welcome to our mid-month club update – lots to look forward to as we move towards Christmas!

Cross Country (Saturday / today!)
After last Saturday’s great turnout at Hurst Green (run report to follow!), we’re back cross country-ing again this Saturday at the London Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill. The races are at 1.15pm (women) and 2pm (men), but please arrive before this to collect your number.

If you’re running, the race location is NW5 1QR; the best route appears to be taking the Overground to Gospel Oak station via Canonbury. It would be great if men could arrive early to support our women runners, and likewise if women are able to stay on to support the men. Remember to wear club colours, and (if possible) bring safety pins!

Entries for the race have closed, but if you haven’t entered then spectators/supporters for our runners are very welcome! We will find a hostelry for a drink afterwards.

After Saturday, cross country takes a break for December. We’ll be back racing in the Surrey League on 13 January, provisionally at Oxshott Woods.

Parkrun Ladder
The parkrun ladder resumes on Saturday with week 2. Bonus points are for posting a parkrun selfie (ideally with another DPR member) on Facebook or Whatsapp. Points are available for volunteering at Dulwich parkrun too!

DPR Quiz Night
The DPR Quiz Night is taking place on Saturday 2 December – come along for puzzling brainteasers,  delicious fish and chips or veggie curry, and a great time socialising with fellow members. Friends and family very welcome! It’s a 6.45pm for 7pm start at the clubhouse.

Tickets are £15, available from the website here.

London Marathon 2024 Ballot
The club has two places in the 2024 London Marathon; one is available for all members, and one for people who volunteered as part of the club’s marshalling team at the 2023 marathon. The places will be allocated by a ballot drawn at the quiz night on 2 December.

For the one all-club place, you are eligible to be in the ballot if:

– you entered the main ballot for the London Marathon in 2024 and were unsuccessful, and
– you were a DPR member at the time of entering the main marathon ballot, and
– you did not run in the 2023 London Marathon, except if you ran under a registered charity entry.

For the one marshalling place, you are eligible to be in the ballot if you took part in the DPR volunteer marshalling team at the 2023 London Marathon.

If you would like to be entered into either or both ballot(s), please email IB at treasurer@dulwichparkrunners.co.uk by 30 November.

10k club championships – Greenwich race cancelled
As per previous newsletters, we were planning to use the Runthrough event at Greenwich Park on 17 December as this year’s 10k club championships. Unfortunately we’ve been told that Runthrough have had to cancel this event because of groundworks in the park. We will keep you updated on a replacement event for our 10k championships.

If you had already entered the Greenwich event, you should have an email from Runthrough on next steps. Please let us know if you do not have this.

Hoodies
Winter is upon us! If you’re interested in treating yourself to a lovely warm DPR hoodie as pictured below (a bargain at £32) please contact Lynne (clubkit@dulwichparkrunners.co.uk). We will place an order for more hoodies if there is sufficient interest.
