Hi everyone – a brief mid-month update looking ahead to the second half of September and beyond. Well done to everyone who braved the heat at the Big Half, the Great North Run, and other races, and look forward to seeing you on Sunday and on Tuesday!
5 Mile Club Championships – Sunday
We are running our 5 mile club championships on Sunday in Dulwich Park – do come along for your chance to win a medal! It is a 9.15 meet at the playground near Queen Mary Gate in Dulwich Park. We will go for coffee at the park cafe afterwards.
The course is the same as the Summer League course. There will be minimal marshalling, so please do familiarise yourself with this in advance. There’s a map below.
We start by the playground, and run 2 laps on the main park roadway anti-clockwise. As we come towards the end of the second lap, we exit the park at Queen Mary Gate, turning left along the South Circular and then left again up Fireman’s Alley. At the top of Fireman’s Alley, it’s left again to descend Court Lane, and a further left to re-enter the park at Court Lane Gate. We turn right to rejoin the park roadway going anti-clockwise, and repeat the Queen Mary Gate-South Circular-Fireman’s Alley-Court Lane-Court Lane Gate part as described above. After re-entering the park, we pass the Queen Mary Gate junction for the fourth time, going straight on to the finish close to the Rosebery Gate in the park.
Mid Year Club Forum and Social
This coming Tuesday is our inaugural ‘Mid-Year Forum’, your chance to have your say on the future of the club.
The Tuesday run on 19 September starts with a 6.45pm meet at the club house. Please be ready to set off by 7pm at the latest. After the run do please then come along to the Crown and Greyhound for 8pm to give your input on a range of interesting issues relating to DPR’s future.
We’ll be examining some of the issues arising from the recent survey along with other items, including how we should mark our 40th anniversary next year.
With thanks to everyone who took part, we’ve attached a summary of the survey results here to help the discussion. The results overall are very positive, but we’ve also identified some actions which may help improve the club going forward.
It will be a lively evening with lots of opportunity to put forward your ideas plus time to relax with a drink and meet other club members.
Plus chips!
Beginners
Our beginners course cohort are now onto week 3 – do come along at 8am, 9am or (for the 5k-5 miles) 10am, meeting at Queen Mary Gate in Dulwich Park. It’s a great way to add miles to your running week while supporting our beginners as they start upping their distance.
WhatsApp Groups
A brief word on our WhatsApp groups – we have reorganised them into a WhatsApp community, which means that you can see the different groups for the different regular runs and events the club runs, and dip in and out of them. We’ll still use the main club chat (join here) for broadcast announcements.
October events
Lastly, a reminder of some of the events we have in October:
- 1 October – we’re taking a trip out to Sussex for a countryside run. Meet at Burgess Hill station – train details to follow.
- 14 October – our first cross country fixture, now confirmed at Epsom Downs/Tattenham Corner at 1pm (women) and 2.30pm (men). See whatsapp groups or speak to Alan/Fran as cross country captains for more details.
