DPR Mid-May Club Update

Welcome to the DPR mid-month club update!

This is our first email update using the blog format, so hopefully it is reaching you all OK. The formatting might look a little different, but the advantage of this approach is that – rather than having to dig back through your emails – you will be able to see all of our newsletters from now on on the website here: https://www.dulwichparkrunners.co.uk/news/ . So bookmark that page, and any feedback to James (comms@dulwichparkrunners.co.uk) very welcome!

Anyway, onto the main news…

Relays

Summer is definitely near… And summer means relays! All abilities very much welcome – relays are great fun!

In addition to summer league events (watch this space), we have two exciting opportunities to enter DPR teams in local events.

Three people per team. The cost to you is £1 per person for each event. (The normal price for each event is £5 but DPR will meet the rest of the cost).

Let us know if interested in one or both events. we can put you in a team. If you already have a preferred team of three, let us know. Or even a preferred leg to run!

Teams and order needs to be submitted in advance so let us know sooner rather than later.

Interest/preferences should be sent to IB over email (treasurer@dulwichparkrunners.co.uk). More details on the events are below.

June Events

We’re moving into summer, and as well as relays we have a lot on in early June.

On Saturday 3 June, we’re again doing one of our gardening sessions in Dulwich Park to help give back to the beautiful park we all enjoy running in. Meet after Dulwich parkrun for some light gardening and coffee.

On Sunday 4 June, we’re off on an away trip to pay a return visit to Blackwater Valley Runners. There will be a lovely route in the Hampshire countryside, and breakfast baps to follow. Travel details etc to be confirmed nearer the time.

On Thursday 8 June, we’re doing some fun races/time trials on the new Dulwich College track from 8.15pm, with the opportunity to record your best 300m time. There will be a warm up, the 300 metres followed by a social run and then a drink at the pub for those interested.

It’s a fun event but useful for Susan when organising the summer league relays to know your 300 metre time. And it’s a great opportunity to sample the delights in running on a brand new athletics track.

(If you are already in the Thursday Improvers group this will be done during your normal session on the night).

And finally, we have our first Summer League event on Sunday 18 June – more to follow!

Beginners Tuesday and Thursday Runs

Our Spring 2023 Beginners have now graduated and some of them will be joining us on Tuesday evenings. If you are willing and able to join them running around the streets of Dulwich at a pace of 11m30 or slower, please have a chat with Oghene and meet them in the clubhouse.

Some of our Beginner graduates have also expressed an interest in a Thursday run. The warm up will be in coordination with the Improvers sessions at 7.15pm before they go off for an independent leisurely social run of around 5k. As we do not have the clubhouse on Thursdays, any member who is interested in joining them please meet at Dulwich College Track. There is no commitment to attend every week.

Membership Renewal

Lastly a final reminder – please do renew your membership! You need to search your inbox for an email from ‘noreply@englandathletics.org’.

Thank you to everyone who has done it so far – the club is on track for another year with increasing membership.
