Dulwich Park Runners Annual General Meeting – Tuesday 20 March

The DPR AGM will take place on 20 March at 8.00pm and we hope all members will attend.  An official notification was sent to all members by email on 20th February.  All the committee posts are open for election.  If you are interested in taking on a role, please speak to a committee member who will be delighted to tell you more about the different responsibilities.  The official notification gives details of how to make a nomination to stand.

Informally, running groups will set out from the clubhouse at 7pm that evening. Feel free to turn up and join in. As a member of the club, we encourage you to attend the AGM or send apologies to  Julietshillingford@gmail.com  if you are unable to attend. It usually finishes before 9 pm

Club Championship 5 Mile Race – Saturday 14 April

This year we’re moving the 5 mile championship race to the Victoria Park race on 14 April, starting at 2.30pm.  It’s one of the very few 5 mile races around, should be easy to get to and costs only £12 for affiliated runners.  Details are on the race website: http://vphthac.org.uk/open5/

Non Club Event Race Recommendations

Many DPR members take part in races outside the club calendar which others might be interested in.  If you have a favourite race and would like to share it with the rest of the club, or have entered an event that others might like to take part in, please email Philippa (philippa_badnell@hotmail.com) with some information about it, and a link to the details.

The Spring 2018 DPR Beginners Course starts Saturday 24 March

Meeting on Saturday mornings, over 8 consecutive weeks, the course aims to take the new or returning runners, and help them to build up their running to a stage where they are confident to continue on their own, to join a club (preferably Dulwich Park Runners!), or reach a point where the thought of running a 10km race for charity or simply getting out and enjoying the health benefits that running can bring seem less daunting.

If you have friends or relatives who may be interested, please encourage them to look at our website www.dulwichparkrunners.com for more information and to send for an application form.

The sessions start at 9.00am and last for about an hour.  As always, we would really appreciate helpers – we cannot do it without you!  We are happy if you join us for just one week, or as many as you can, with the reward of breakfast at a local café after the week 8 run.  This is also the ideal way for members returning after injury or babies or just laziness to get back into running.  Please talk to Susan or Di about what we would like you to do.

Improvers Squad – Thursday Night Sessions

The Improvers Squad is growing as demonstrated by our end of term outing in the last week of February!  If you’d like to join the Improvers Squad for March and April, please sign up with Susan.  We’ll be working on strength, so lots of hills, to get your glutes ready for spring racing and speed sessions in early summer.

In order to get the best out of the sessions, members are asked to sign up for the whole month at a time, with an opt-out by text if you are unable to come for one of the sessions, rather than the other way round!  The sessions will be arranged for, and advised to, those who have the intention to commit.  This means that each session can be adapted in advance to suit individual requirements, and we can vary the venues.

The sessions are suitable for all levels of runner – all you need to bring is the desire to improve whatever level you are at right now.  The general advice is that people should be running at least 3 times a week in order to maximise the benefit, i.e. over 15 miles per week.  This is particularly important as we are running distance rather than short and sharp, but if you have not quite reached this please chat with Susan anyhow if you are interested in taking part.  If you have any queries, please ask.  susan.l.smith@live.com / 079499 50291.

London Marathon Marshalling

DPR have again been given the opportunity to provide marshals for the London marathon.  Marshalling places are open to all club members.  Partners, friends etc can also be considered.  We usually marshal the route on The Highway, between miles 13-14 and miles 21-22.

This is a great way to be part of the London marathon and by marshalling in 2017 DPR members will have a chance to win a place in the 2018 London marathon – our marshalling efforts usually earn us 4 places, which will be allocated by ballot among the DPR members in the marshalling team.  You will also get free travel, a t-shirt, cap, lunch, some snacks and a medal!

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Natalie Villiers on nataliev.1@ntlworld.com (please put “London Marathon Marshals 2017” in the subject line, and give your full name, contact number (preferably mobile), email address, and note whether you are First Aid qualified).  Alternatively, you can register your interest by responding to Natalie’s post on Facebook.

Tuesday Night Warm up Sessions

If you would be willing to lead the warm up session on Tuesdays occasionally, please let Susan Smith know.  Training will be available for those who need a reminder of what is involved.

Yoga

Dates for 2018 yoga sessions are 22 March, 26 April and 24 May.  The sessions are free for DPR members.  Improvers Squad will move to 7.00pm on those days so that runners can attend both sessions.

DPR Social Events

There are a number of social events throughout the club year.  If members have suggestions for social events or would like to get involved with organising these, please contact Anna Gregorowski, Social Secretary.  All ideas and support are welcome!

  • Come and join DPR runners and marshals for a post marathon drink at Bar Ev near Waterloo from 3.30pm on marathon day, 22 April.  All welcome!
  • Post marathon party – Tuesday 24 April.  After our usual run at 7.30pm there will be a post London marathon drinks and nibbles event back at the clubhouse to celebrate with DPR London marathon runners.  All very welcome!  London Marathon Runners – watch the FB page to book a free 20 minute sports massage for Tuesday 24 April.
