Men’s Cross Country Race Fixtures

We’ve got two more men’s races to go this season.

Third Fixture

Next up is the Bank of England cross country race on Saturday 20 January.  This is a really nice race around Richmond Park, starting at 2.30pm.  There’s no entry fee, just let us know in advance that you’re coming so we can let the host club know so they can sort out the catering!

Fourth Fixture

Our final fixture will again be the Dash for the Splash.   The race will take place on Sunday 25 February 2018.   This is a fantastic cross country race around Wimbledon Common taking in all the hills (even ones you didn’t know were there) through the woods with plenty of mud thrown in for good measure and at the 9km point you even get to run through the brook.   What better way is there to finish a cross country run?   Details of how to enter are on the website. https://www.sportsentrysolutions.com/new_race_page.php?recordID=200663  Sign up early as the race normally sells out.   As with the other men’s races this is an open race so DPR ladies are very welcome to join us.

Ladies’ Cross Country Race Fixtures

The third and fourth ladies’ cross country races will take place on 13 January and 10 February at Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park, respectively.  Further details will follow nearer the time.

2018 Club Championship Races

Old Deer Park Half Marathon – Sunday 18 February 2018

For the club half marathon race we’ll be heading over to Richmond for the Old Deer Park race (http://southernrunningguide.com/race/old-deer-park-richmond-half-marathon) on 18 February.   This is a lovely course which spends a lot of time next to the river, is really well organised and has a great atmosphere; a few club members did it earlier this year and really enjoyed it.

It is only a small race though, so there is a good chance the race will sell out.  We would really recommend that you enter early to avoid disappointment.  We’ve been told that there are multiple ways to enter the race and that there is quite a difference in the race entry fee.  If you go via this link

https://www.activetrainingworld.co.uk/events/2018/02/18/richmondhalf entry should cost you about £25, with a processing fee.

5 Mile Race – April 2018

For the 5 mile race we’re going to use the Victoria Park 5 mile race.  This usually takes place the first weekend of April (so don’t book a place on the Paddock Wood Half!) and we’ll confirm the details nearer the time once they’re available.

 Non Club Event Race Recommendations

Many DPR members take part in races outside the club calendar so this section lists up and coming runs that others might be interested in.  If you have a favourite race and would like to share it with the rest of the club, or have entered an event that others might like to take part in, please email Philippa (philippa_badnell@hotmail.com) with some information about it, and a link to the details.  Some Dulwich Park Runners are taking part in the following events:

  •  Tadworth 10 – it’s the time of year again for the Tadworth 10!  The race will take place on Sunday 7 January 2018 and is popular with members who have done it previously.  Further details are on the race website http://www.tadworth.org.uk/tadworth-10

  • All DPR members are invited to The Bank of England cross country event at 2.30pm on Saturday 20 January in Richmond Park.  It is a 4.9 mile one lap course.  There will be the traditional tea arrangements afterwards, the cost of which will be met by DPR, so long as you confirm your attendance by 12 January, as I have to send confirmed numbers by then.  If you have not already indicated your attendance on Facebook, please email philippa_badnell@hotmail.com asap.  Lifts will be arranged via Facebook (unless you let me know you do not access Facebook).  I look forward to seeing you there for a fun afternoon, whatever your running capability.

Improvers Squad – Thursdays in January and February

If you’d like to get 2018 off to a good start and would like to join the Improvers Squad for the sessions in January and February, please sign up with Susan.  We’ll be working on endurance to get you ready for the spring halfs and marathons, so some long sessions with not much hanging around to recover!

In order to get the best out of the sessions, members are asked to sign up for the whole month at a time, with an opt-out by text if you are unable to come for one of the sessions, rather than the other way round!  The sessions will be arranged for, and advised to, those who have the intention to commit.  This means that each session can be adapted in advance to suit individual requirements, and we can vary the venues.

The sessions are suitable for all levels of runner – all you need to bring is the desire to improve whatever level you are at right now.  The general advice is that people should be running at least 3 times a week in order to maximise the benefit, i.e. over 15 miles per week.  This is particularly important as we are running distance rather than short and sharp, but if you have not quite reached this please chat with Susan anyhow if you are interested in taking part.  If you have any queries, please ask.  susan.l.smith@live.com / 079499 50291

 Marathon 2018

Anyone with a place, or hoping for a place, or maybe might have a place, or is just thinking about a place in a spring marathon or the London marathon who would like help with a schedule, please see Susan or email susan.l.smith@live.com asap to get yourself schedule ready!

Tuesday Night Warm up Sessions

If you would be willing to lead the warm up session on Tuesdays occasionally, please let Susan Smith know.  Training will be available for those who need a reminder of what is involved.

Dates for 2018 yoga sessions are 25 January, 22 February, 22 March, 26 April and 24 May.  The sessions are free for DPR members.  Improvers Squad will move to 7.00pm on those days so that runners can attend both sessions.

Regular Yoga with Carla

Currently Carla comes to the Club for free yoga for DPR members once a month.  If you want to practise yoga weekly, she is starting up a class in West Wickham in January 2018 on a Monday evening 8.00-9.30pm.  Arrive any time from 7.40pm for herbal tea and a chat.  Medhurst Hall, Sussex Road, West Wickham BR4 0JX.  New students – the first class is free when you email Carla to book at Carla@healthourfocus.com.  Drop in Class £11.50, no need to book just turn up, or pay 6 weeks £55.

Carla is also trying to set up a weekly class at our clubhouse but at the moment there is no availability.  We will let you know if she is successful.

DPR Social Events

There are a number of social events throughout the club year.  If members have suggestions for social events or would like to get involved with organising these, please contact Anna Gregorowski, Social Secretary.  All ideas and support are welcome!

Annual DPR Dinner Saturday 27 January 2018 – save the date

The event of the DPR Social calendar, this is a formal dress up do!  The club’s annual dinner takes place at the clubhouse; the cost is £10 (£5 for children up to 15 years old) which pays for Prosecco on arrival, wine for the table, and soft drinks.   Do bring more wine/whatever you fancy to drink if you wish.

Please bring a starter, main or dessert for a sit down meal.   If you’re bringing a dish to be eaten hot, aim to bring it from the oven.   Food can be kept warm but not cooked at the clubhouse.  For planning purposes, we ask you to let Anna know in advance what you plan to bring.

Everyone who buys a ticket has automatic entry into the club raffle.  More information on the raffle to follow!  Tickets will be on sale soon via DPR website.  We will also sell tickets at the club in January, but please buy online if you can as it makes it much easier to manage.  Thank you!
