Membership Renewal Subscriptions Are Due
Thank you to those of you who have renewed your membership. Everyone else is reminded to renew their membership for the year 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2018.

Benefits of membership
All Senior membership types include the £14 England Athletic affiliation. As well as enjoying the encouragement and company of your running buddies on club nights, you benefit from advice and support from our qualified coach (Susan); participation in races and the chance to win medals; inclusion in our Summer League and cross country seasons, yoga sessions and other workshops or training sessions provided during the year. In addition, you can unwind and enjoy social events during the year such as picnics, summer BBQ, quiz night and annual dinner.

As a senior member you will qualify to enter the ballot for the places the club gets from EA for next year’s London Marathon. If you were on the marshalling team at this year’s marathon and are a member of the club you will qualify to enter the ballot for the marshalling places we get for next year’s marathon too.

How to renew
Either go to our website and you will find on our membership page a button to pay your subs or if you received a reminder email from Active use the link at the bottom of the page. There are different types of membership, click the one that is relevant for you.

If your circumstances have changed you may wish to change your membership type. For example, if you have moved away and can no longer attend the club during the week but want to join us for races and would like to join us for social events then you can renew as a Long Distance member. If you are not running at the moment through injury or perhaps just had a baby then renew as a Social member and when you start running again, contact me for a pro-rata discount code to upgrade to Senior membership and pay for the remaining part of the year.

Summer League 2017
The Summer League is an annual series of four to five friendly fixtures held by a group of eight like-minded London running clubs each summer. We compete for the Summer League trophy, which we have won several times in previous years. Each fixture consists of an all-abilities 5 mile or 10km race for adults (ages 15+); a fun run aimed at children under 6; a ‘tenderfoot race’ aimed at 6–14 year olds; relay races in which each leg is about 300-400m long and a picnic provided by the host club. The Dulwich Park and Regent’s Park fixtures will be used as this year’s club championship races for 5 miles and 10km respectively.

Dino Dash – Wednesday 21 June
Having enjoyed it so much last year, we will again be taking part in the mid-summer Dino Dash relay race on Wednesday 21 June in Crystal Palace Park. The race starts at 7.30pm. It’s for teams of 3, with each team member completing a 3km lap, and it’s cheap as chips to enter – only £15 per team with all proceeds going to local charities. Club Championship 1 Mile Race – Tuesday 11 July
The club’s 1 mile club championship race will take place in Dulwich Park on Tuesday 11 July.

Cabbage Patch 10 Mile Race and Club Championship Race – Sunday 15 October
For this year’s 10 mile club championship race, we’ll be going back to the Cabbage Patch 10. The race will be held on 15 October 2017 and entries are open now. Further details are on the race website: This is a popular race so it’s a good idea to sign up early if you are interested in taking part.

Entry to the London Marathon 2018
Well done to all our runners who took part in the great race this year.
All too soon, it’s that time to think about doing it all over again, or taking the leap for the very first time! Next year’s marathon takes place on Sunday 22 April 2018. In order to gain the best chance of getting a place in next year’s marathon, please be aware that entries for the 2018 London Marathon open online at midnight on 1 May at and close at 5pm on Friday 5 May 2017.

If you would like to be considered for a DPR club place, you will need to have entered the marathon via the open ballot and been rejected. You will not be considered for a DPR club place if you have not done this. Keep hold of the letter should you be rejected, as proof of your entry.

Club Championship Half Marathon Results
The 2017 club championship half marathon race took place on 9 April along the Grand Union Canal. The race took a scenic course between Uxbridge and Watford, ending in Cassiobury Park, where we recovered from the run (and the heat!) with a lovely picnic.

The results from the race have been put through the age-grading calculator and are as follows:

Beginners Course
There are just two weeks to go on the spring 2017 course which started on Saturday 25 March. If you are available to help on any of the remaining Saturdays or would like more information on what is required, please chat with Di or Susan. It’s useful if you can wear club kit, or a white top, so helpers who don’t get to the club very often can distinguish each other from beginners. As usual there will be a thank you breakfast for all helpers after the run on the final day of the course!

Non Club Event Race Recommendations
Many DPR members take part in races outside the club calendar so this section lists up and coming runs that others might be interested in. If you have a favourite race and would like to share it with the rest of the club, or have entered an event that others might like to take part in, please email with some information about it, and a link to the details. Some Dulwich Park Runners are taking part in the following events:

• On 10 September there is the truly wonderful Surrey Bacchus Half which takes place at Denbies vineyard in Dorking, in which many runners wear fancy dress and there are wine stops!
• Mel Greer-Walker did a fantastic trail run in the New Forest in March with a company called Maverick. It was well-signposted with food and drinks on the course and you got beer and a bottle opener medal at the end. They are holding an event at Groombridge in Kent on 30 September. There are 7, 14 and 21km distances so it would be a great introduction for anyone fancying their first trail run or wanting to take on the challenge of a longer route. More details at

Improvers Squad – Thursdays in May and June
In May and June we concentrate on speed training. This is a good set of sessions for anyone looking to improve their 5 mile and 10k time in the Summer League races. Please sign up with Susan.

In order to get the best out of the sessions, members are asked to sign up for a whole month at a time, with an opt-out by text if you are unable to come for one of the sessions, rather than the other way round! The sessions will be arranged for, and advised to, those who have the intention to commit. This means that each can be adapted in advance to suit individual requirements, and we can vary the venues.

The sessions are suitable for all levels of runner – all you need to bring is the desire to improve whatever level you are at right now. The general advice is that people should be running at least three times a week in order to maximise benefit, i.e. over 15 miles per week, but if you have not quite reached this, please chat with Susan anyhow if you are interested in taking part. Tuesday Night Warm up Sessions
If you would be willing to lead the warm up session on Tuesdays occasionally, please let Susan Smith know. Training will be available for those who need a reminder of what is involved.

Dates for running-specific yoga sessions are Thursdays 25 May, 22 June, 20 July, 7 September, 19 October, 23 November and 14 December starting at 8.00pm. The sessions are free for DPR members. Improvers Squad will move to 7.00pm those days so that runners can attend both sessions.

There are a number of social events throughout the club year. If members have suggestions for other social events or would like to get involved with organising these, please contact Anna Gregorowski, Social Secretary. All ideas and support are welcome!
